Scholarships are to be used towards tuition and school fees. Considerations may be made to apply scholarship to other school related expenses such as books and other specialised learning resources (including specialised laptops, software, lab equipment), housing and insurance.

Obligations of the recipient:

• Scholarship recipients are required to provide proof of payment to the educational institution.
• Scholarship recipients are required to maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0
• Scholarship recipients are required to submit status updates of exam results each term and proof of enrolment and good academic standing with learning institution.

1. Information We Collect

   When you submit your application, we collect the following types of information:

   • Personal Identifiable Information (PII): Name, contact details (e.g., email address, phone number), and address.
   • Academic Information: Transcripts, GPA, and details about your educational institution.
   • Supplementary Information: Essays, letters of recommendation, and any other materials provided as part of the application.

   We use your data for the following purposes:

   • To review and evaluate scholarship applications.
   • To verify eligibility and validate the authenticity of documents submitted.

   • To comply with legal or regulatory requirements.

   Your information will only be used for the purpose of administering the scholarship and will not be shared with third parties unless required by law or with your explicit consent.

3. Data Retention

   We will retain your personal information for the duration of the application and selection process. If your application is unsuccessful, your data will be securely deleted after 3 months. For successful applicants, relevant data will be retained as part of the scholarship records.

4. Data Security

   We implement strict security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure. These measures include access controls, and secure storage systems.

5. Your Rights

   You have the right to:
   • Access the personal data we hold about you.

Scholarship Frequently Asked Questions

1. Who is eligible to apply for this scholarship?
   The Shell Energy and Innovation Academic Scholarship is open to past and current participants of the Shell NXplorers Programme.
   Eligibility criteria:
   • Must be citizens of Trinidad and Tobago
   • Must hold a certificate from the Shell NXplorers Programme in Trinidad and Tobago (past or current cycles)
   • Provide evidence of enrolment and acceptance to an accredited local/regional tertiary institution.
   • Current University Students: Have a current minimum GPA of 3.0
   • Students transitioning into University: At least 5 subjects, grade 1-2 CSEC and/or CAPE passes and must include 2 STREAM subjects.
   • Intend to pursue or are currently pursuing a major in a Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics (STREAM) discipline (undergraduate/ graduate level).
   • At least one year remaining at the time of close of scholarship application.
   Eligible fields of study include:
   • Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Petroleum, Renewable Energy, and related fields).
   • Environmental Sciences and Sustainability.
   • Information Technology and Data Analytics.
   • Medical Science
   • Agri-Business
   • Geographical Studies for Sustainable Development
2. What is the value of the Shell NXplorers Energy and Innovation Academic Scholarship?
   Two (2) scholarships with a value of up to TT$35,000.00 each are being offered.


3. What does the Shell NXplorers Energy and Innovation Academic Scholarship cover?
   The scholarship will cover tuition and school related fees.


4. What is the deadline date for scholarship applications?
   The deadline has been extended to 31st March, 2026.


5. Where can scholarship applications be submitted?
   
   • Create a .zip file with all required documents. Title your zip file in the following format: First Name, Last Name, Shell NXplorers Scholarship Documents

6. What documents should be submitted along with the scholarship application form?
   In addition to the application form, the following documents are also required:
   • University transcripts for last academic year 2023-2024 and 2024- 2025 (where applicable). For secondary school students, CSEC and CAPE certificates.
   • Applicant’s essay (750 word document, detailing how will the scholarship benefit the applicant)
   • Statement of support (this letter of recommendation should emphasize the applicant’s academic achievements, interest in STREAM, 21st-century skills, and well-rounded development) who can provide this statement (i.e. teachers or professors etc.)
   • Proof of acceptance and enrolment and good academic standing with learning institution.
   • Resume (tertiary level students). Secondary school students may submit a summary of academic and extra-curricular achievements with copies of related certificates.
7. Can the scholarship only be used to cover tuition and school fees? If my full tuition is already funded (e.g. GATE) can the scholarship funds be utilised towards other school fees e.g. books, housing?
   Considerations may be made to allow for payments other than tuition and school fees at the discretion of NIHERST and Shell.


8. How will the scholarship funds be disbursed?
   Students are to provide proof of the amount to be paid for tuition and school fees. NIHERST will make direct payment to the institution and provide proof of payment to the scholarship recipient.


9. When can I expect payment of the scholarship?
   The successful scholarship recipients should receive payment only after submitting proof of the amount to be paid. This amount will be paid before it becomes due to the institution.


10. How many disbursements will the scholarship recipient receive?
    If the tuition and fees to be covered is under the scholarship amount of TTD$35,000, additional disbursements may be made for the duration of the course of study up to the full scholarship amount of $TTD35,000.00. The recipient must maintain and show proof of the minimum 3.0 GPA each academic term, provide proof of enrolment and good academic standing with learning institution each academic term and continue to pursue a STREAM discipline.


11. Will the scholarship be renewed?
    No, this is a one-time scholarship that will not be renewed.
