NIHERST’s Acting President, Ms. Julie David, together with the U.S. Embassy, proudly announced that Ms. Danielle Franklyn and Mr. Vaishnava Ramjass have been selected to represent Trinidad and Tobago at the prestigious National Youth Science Camp in the United States, taking place from July 10 to August 2, 2025.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and hosted by the National Youth Science Academy, this immersive program offers outstanding young leaders in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) the opportunity to engage with experts, collaborate with peers from around the world, and participate in cutting-edge workshops and hands-on activities designed to inspire innovation and global scientific dialogue.

GET TO KNOW YOUR REPRESENTATIVES:

  • Danielle Franklyn is an Upper Six student at Holy Name Convent, Port of Spain, currently studying natural sciences. She is a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) enthusiast dedicated to developing and implementing innovative solutions to societal challenges.

    As a former Vice Captain of St. Catherine’s House, she mentors her peers, fostering discipline, leadership, school spirit, and active participation in school activities. She volunteers with M.A.D.E. TT and is an active member of her church’s youth ministry. Danielle recently represented Trinidad and Tobago as a delegate in the AFS Global STEM Academies program in China, where she explored the country’s diverse culture and modern advancements in technology, infrastructure, and engineering. Recognized for her academic excellence, she has received her school’s CSEC Trophy of Excellence and the CAPE Unit 1 Science Trophy in 2024.

    Additionally, she has earned certificates of participation in the Math Olympiad and the Rotary Club Model United Nations. Beyond her studies, Danielle is involved in various extracurricular activities, including photography, choir, and tutoring. She aspires to merge her passion for science with advocacy to create lasting change within her community.

  • Vaishnava Ramjass is a Lower Six student at Presentation College, Chaguanas. He is a passionate artist, writer, and debater with a love for both science and the arts.

    As the former Vice President of the PCC Art Club and President of the Drama and Spoken Word Club, he has organized events, written and directed original plays, and promoted artistic engagement within his school. He is also a senior member of the PCC Debate Society, where he has won debate championships and represented his school on a national level.

    Additionally, he has participated in and won numerous spoken word and poetry competitions. With a deep interest in scientific research, driven by curiosity, he is eager to explore the next generation of technology and innovation while discovering ways to bridge his scientific passion with creative expression
