Utilisation of Information Technology by Households, 2009
The National Institute of Higher Education, Research,
Science and Technology (NIHERST) conducted a household survey on the
utilisation of information technology by households during the period
February/March, 2009. Empirical data were collected from a random selection
of approximately two thousand and one hundred (2,100) households throughout
Trinidad and Tobago by a group of trained field personnel.
This survey is the second of its kind to be undertaken by
NIHERST and is designed to provide empirical data on the number of
computers, characteristics of computer users and the range of computer
applications in private households in Trinidad and Tobago. The objectives of
the study are to determine:
-
households with/without computers by geographic areas,
-
reasons for no computer in households,
-
source of funding,
-
the socio-economic and demographic profile of computer
users in households,
-
range of computer applications, and
-
Internet connections, usage, satisfaction with service
providers, and concerns for security.
A report on the results of this survey has been compiled
and will be published in the fourth quarter of 2010.
