Survey of Science in Secondary Schools, 2011
The National Institute of Higher Education, Research,
Science and Technology (NIHERST) conducted a survey on science in public and
private secondary schools in Trinidad and Tobago during the period
March/April, 2011.
The objectives of this study are to compile benchmark
data on:

Teachers’
demographic characteristics, educational attainment in science and
professional qualifications
-
Teacher training
needs and job satisfaction
-
Adequacy of
textbooks
-
Coverage of
syllabus and areas of difficulty – teaching and understanding
-
Relevance of
C.S.E.C. syllabus and evaluation methods
-
School
infrastructure - science room, equipment, materials
-
Students’
attitudes towards science and scientific careers
One hundred and fifty-seven government, government
assisted and private secondary schools in Trinidad and Tobago were surveyed
and 143 (91%) responded.
The data are being captured for analysis and upon
completion a report on the results of the survey will be published.
