The S&T Statistical Unit’s main function is to collect, compile
and disseminate statistics in the field of Science and Technology
(S&T). Science and technological activities are closely
concerned with the generation, advancement and application of
knowledge in all fields of science and technology. These include
such activities as research and development (R&D), scientific and
technical education and training (STET), and scientific and
technological services (STS).
The data collected by the Unit are obtained from primary sources
through national surveys, as well as secondary sources through
administrative records and data collected by the national statistical

National Innovation
Survey of the Food and Beverage Industry in
Trinidad and Tobago, 2006
This undertaking is intended to provide insights into the innovation
process and to assist decision-makers in developing policies to create
the environment and incentives to catalyse innovation in the industry.
Survey of Skilled
Caribbean Professionals in Science and Technology 2007
NIHERST recognises the tremendous stock of skill and expertise that
exists within the community of Caribbean nationals that live overseas.
A study has been commissioned to create a database that profiles
Caribbean professionals in science and technology fields.
Survey of Environmental Awareness and Practices, 2008
NIHERST will be conducting a household survey on
environmental awareness and practices during the period March/April, 2008.
Survey
of Mathematics in Primary Schools, 2007
The Science and Technology Statistical Unit is conducting
a survey on mathematics in primary schools during the period May/June, 2007. A representative sample of 223 primary schools, which includes
government, government assisted and private primary schools by education
districts, was selected to participate in the survey.
Survey on the Social Science Graduates, 2007
The Science and Technology Statistical Unit is conducting
a survey of graduates of the five year period, 2001 to 2005, from the
Faculty of Social Sciences at The University of the West Indies. Social
sciences account for 25% of the total output of graduates from UWI. |
