It’s going to be a hip, happening and healthy time, in the final week of Sci-TechKnoFest 2008!  Having excited and entertained 31,000 visitors of all ages over the past two and a half weeks, the country’s most unique science festival kicks into its last few days at the NIHERST/NGC National Science Centre in D’Abadie. Health and Wellness have never before been portrayed in such a dynamic and activity-led fashion, with so much for everyone to see, do, learn and enjoy!

Over the next few days, visitors will explore a range of fitness activities: the youngsters can work out on ‘just-their-size’ cardio equipment in the Healthy Lifestyles area, alongside the ever-popular ‘Dance Dance Revolution’ and Wii game systems that have kept the teens, tweens and others coming back for more!

Our three Kidiplay houses, “Eat Right”, “Wonderful Hands” and “Move it”, focus exclusively  on activities for those aged seven and younger. So parents who find it is hard to interest such little ones in the topic of health will discover an educational outlet that will help them appreciate the importance of healthy eating and exercise.

The older children and the young at heart can get a fascinating and unique perspective on the workings of the human body walking through Heart Over Heels, an exhibit from the Children’s Museum of Graz, Austria. Designed as a house with several rooms, visitors travel through ‘the body’, examining the brain in the study, the digestive process in the kitchen, and respiration in the verandah, among other systems.

Reminding us that prevention is easier than cure, our Ounce of Prevention area focuses on the management of blood pressure, body mass index and asthma-related issues. Take a Good Look at Yourself will astound visitors with its body scans, x-ray images, real lungs – a smoker’s and a healthy set- and the ‘Doctor Detective’ interactive exhibit. You can also see your brain waves in action!

And of course, what would the festival be without the variety of top-notch TechKno Theatre shows. This last week will see an explosion of talent from a new cast of international science showmen and popular local performers.  Paul Taylor of the Franklin Institute in the US presents “The Human Body” which gives a hilarious account of how the human body works and David Price from Science Made Simple in the U.K delivers a riveting explanation of the laws of physics in “The Science of Sport”. Local dramatists, Mairoon Ali and Penelope Spencer also join the TechKno Theatre with the thought-provoking piece, “I Wanna be Thin”.

If you haven’t yet visited, you must come to experience our newly opened Yapollo Fun Park where your kids can enjoy multiple slides, rock-climbing walls and twisted monkey bars, as they romp around in the sunshine. Adults can also enjoy their own workout on an exercise circuit complete with arm strengthening exercises, stationary bikes and leg lift stations on the perimeter the kids’ play area.

So improving your health and wellbeing, and learning about your body is easier and more fun with all that’s in store for you at Sci-TechKnoFest 2008.  Come and take a journey inside of you! It’s the last few days so don’t miss it! The festival ends Sunday 18th May 2008.
