2012 Creative Design Lab / Robomania Workshops

The Creative Design lab, a division of
the Innovation Unit at the National Science Centre, has been conducting
one-day workshops in Electronics and Robotics at schools in the Caroni,
Victoria, and Naparima/Mayaro educational districts targeted at students
from form three to five. The electronics workshop covers the physics of the
atom, electricity and electronics, power generation, and power distribution.
Students learn basic concepts then get to build and test a working loud
speaker from scratch. In the robotics workshop, students learn about the
science of robotics and then build and program their own autonomous robots.
Continuing until April, these
workshops excite students’ interest in science by getting them involved in
fun, engaging activities that bring abstract concepts to life. Students
welcome the chance to have a break from the monotony of school work and to
experience a different science in whole new way taught by facilitators just
a few years older than themselves. What’s more the modules are tailored so
that students from a wide range of ages and abilities can all learn
something while having fun.
