Christmas at the Science Centre, 2010
It was that time of year again, when the youngsters of
the NSC Science Club donned their Christmas hats and put on a show to
celebrate the season. “Christmas at the Science Centre” was the grand
showcase which capped off the term’s activities before starting the vacation
break on Saturday 11th December 2010.

Some junior club members
get ready to sing “Jingle Bells” |
In the cosy location
of the Planetarium theatre, the
Science Club members entertained an audience
of
parents, NIHERST staff and their families. First on
the programme were
the junior members who
presented their creative version of the “Twelve Days
of Christmas” with a piece entitled “A Book Full of
Special Science Treats”.
In this item, the juniors
performed a science demonstration, rendered
somewhat like a parlour trick,
as water poured into
a cup was magically
spirited away before the eyes
of all. Afterwards they sang their hearts out
with
their rendition of “Jingle Bells”. |

Two talented children then demonstrated their skills on
the pan, with a medley of Christmas songs and the ever popular carol “Silent
Night”. Next, it was the turn of the seniors, and these members undertook a
choral speaking piece that clearly described “Ah Real, Real Trini
Christmas”. They wished everyone compliments of the season in their
rendition of “Feliz Navidad”. |

Jalise makes “Instant Snow”
on stage with Alwyn Giordon” |
The mini concert was
beautifully put together and ran quite
smoothly,
under the direction of Alwyn Gordon (NSC’s in-house
showman),
assisted by Neesha Antoine and
Danielle Hernandez,
part-time science explainers. After their performances
the Club
members, who earlier in
the day enjoyed a hearty Christmas lunch,
then headed off to receive
their NSC Christmas presents. |
Science Club sessions will resume on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month
in the New Year after the school term begins. |
