Foresight Study on Renewable Energy
This foresight study set out to
identify and develop business investment opportunities in renewable energy
for Trinidad & Tobago entrepreneurs. A global review was undertaken of key
relevant trends, discontinuities and uncertainties. It examined where key
stakeholders are positioning themselves in the future marketplace and
examined how energy policies are evolving. It also gave a view of where
sustainable and renewable technologies are heading
Through expert interviews and desktop
research of existing capabilities (people and resources), a number of
opportunities for development in the sector (Best-Bet Cases) were identified
and ranked based on who we have; what we need from the public, private and
R&D sectors; possible offshore alliances; and value chain sources, among
other considerations. Roadmaps were developed for the top three ranked
Best-Bets: Enersave (software-based energy management systems), Suncool
(solar air-conditioning systems), and Solar Tech (solar thin film
photovoltaics systems). The study has generated interest by public officials
and entrepreneurs in other Caribbean countries.
